The future is now, and it is two different notifications.
One says the living room sat at 64% relative humidity (RH) while you were in Atlanta. That is vapor. Log it. Size for it. Drain the machine that is supposed to pull it down.
The other says a pad in a pan got wet. That is a puddle. That is Carlo’s beat. A leak puck. A text. A Saturday you still have a ceiling.
FloridaDamp will look like it is selling “smart home.” It is not. It is selling the difference, because people buy a Wi-Fi hygrometer, see 58%, and miss the washing-machine hose.
What a phone relative humidity (RH) alert is for
A logger on an interior wall — not on the glass, not on the dehumidifier exhaust — tells you the room’s water in air. Living-space target about 45–55% relative humidity (RH). Sustained above 60% is the action cue. After a storm, compare the wet room to a dry reference room. Hygrometer guide.
Tempo Disc Maxi is the USA-made logger we list when you want a phone trail, not a $8 coin battery on a nail. It will not hear a pan overflow.
If the slider wall took rain, pin drywall. Looking dry is not a reading. Moisture meter after a leak.
What it is not for
It is not a leak detector. 70% relative humidity (RH) in a garage is a hot box doing what Florida garages do. Water on a closet floor is a failed drain. Those can happen in the same house in the same hour. They are not the same push notification.
If your app says relative humidity (RH) climbed after you left town, check auto-restart on the dehumidifier and whether the storm blinked the grid. Keep a closed Florida house dry. If the app says nothing and the closet ceiling is brown, you had a puddle with no witness.
A logger also does not replace a pin meter after wind-driven rain. Air can look fine while the assembly is still wet. Pin at 12 and 24 inches. Trend toward dry. That is still meters, still this beat.
Hand the puddle to plumbing
Carlo covers the pucks: your phone knows before the ceiling. Heater pan, washer, fridge line, closet floor. I will not teach a condensate flush from a humidity note. The pipe is his.
My job is: measure air, then size, then drain continuously. Pint chart after you know the room. Not before you know whether the floor is wet.
What not to do
- Do not silence a relative humidity (RH) alert for a week because “Florida is always like that.” Log it. Compare rooms.
- Do not buy a leak puck and skip the hygrometer. You will catch the flood and miss the mold week.
- Do not treat a smart plug on a dehumidifier as leak detection. It tells you the machine has power. It does not tell you the pan spilled.
Run this
- One logger, interior wall, phone alerts on. Confirm it reports after you leave Wi-Fi and come back.
- If any closet or garage already smells like a closed house, pin the wall and read relative humidity (RH) before you shop capacity.
- Add leak pucks where water lands. That list is five places a leak puck earns rent.
The future is two texts. One is air. One is water. Florida will send both. Answer the right one.
